Description

This exceptional silver Tanka represents a significant piece of Islamic numismatic history from the Delhi Sultanate's Khalji Dynasty. Minted in 711 AH (1311 CE) under the reign of Ala al-Din Muhammad Khilji, one of the sultanate's most influential rulers, this coin exemplifies the sophisticated monetary systems of medieval India. The Tanka was the primary silver currency of the Delhi Sultanate, and this particular specimen showcases authentic craftsmanship typical of 14th-century Islamic coinage. Struck in pure silver, the coin bears inscriptions and iconography reflective of Khilji's prosperous reign—an era marked by military conquests and administrative reforms.
