This is a remarkable piece of Indian numismatic history—a 10 Rupees commemorative silver coin minted in 1970 at the Kolkata Mint. Issued during the Republic period, this coin celebrates the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) initiative "Food for All," reflecting India's commitment to agricultural advancement and food security during a pivotal era in the nation's development. Struck in 80% silver with a substantial weight of 15 grams and a diameter of 34mm, this coin represents quality craftsmanship typical of Indian mint productions. The milled technique and medal alignment give it an authentic, museum-quality appearance. What makes this coin exceptionally desirable is its rarity—commemorative issues from this period, particularly those in excellent condition, are increasingly difficult to locate. Collectors prize this coin for its historical significance, combining monetary value with cultural importance. The FAO theme connects it to global humanitarian efforts of the 1970s, while its status as a circulating commemorative makes it a unique bridge between everyday currency and special-issue collectibles. Whether you're a serious numismatist, Indian history enthusiast, or investment-minded collector, this silver coin offers both aesthetic appeal and genuine scarcity value.
