Sealed packets
A sealed packet has not been opened since it was packed, which is exactly the appeal: the notes inside have never been handled, sorted or counted by hand, and the sequence is intact. For collectors who care about originality, an unopened packet is a different proposition from loose notes of the same series in the same grade.
What to weigh up
- Seal integrity — whether the original packing is genuinely intact.
- What is visible — usually only the outermost note can be inspected.
- Opening changes it — the premium attaches to the packet being sealed.
- Series and signature — identifiable from the packing or the visible note.
Read each listing carefully for exactly what is guaranteed about the contents.
