Semi fancy serial numbers

Not every interesting serial number is a perfect solid or a full ladder. Semi fancy covers everything in between: numbers with most digits repeating, sequences broken by a single digit, strong endings, doubled and tripled pairs, and other patterns that catch the eye without meeting the strict definition of a classic fancy note.

This is where a lot of collectors start. Semi fancy notes are considerably easier to find than solids or true ladders, which makes them a practical way to learn what to look for in a serial number before committing to the scarcer patterns. Many collectors also build themed runs here — all near-solids of one denomination, for example, or a set showing several different near-miss patterns side by side.

As with any serial-driven note, the grade still matters. Check the photographs and the seller's condition description on each listing.
