George V's reign produced a long, well-documented run of Indian coinage across many denominations and several mints, which is exactly why it is one of the most popular British India series to collect. There is enough material to build a substantial collection at reasonable cost, and enough variation in dates and mint marks to keep it interesting.
The very first year of the series is a well-known story in Indian numismatics: the elephant on the King's robe attracted enough comment that the design was reworked, and collectors have distinguished the two versions ever since.
