Description
A Rare mint error one rupee of the Republic India definitive series, struck in 1986 from a pair of badly deteriorated dies. Both faces are covered by a network of fine raised lines, the unmistakable signature of a crumbling die rather than damage after striking.
- Error: extensive die cracks and die deterioration, forming a raised web over the whole of both faces.
- Heavier cracks run inwards from the rim at about 10, 12 and 4 o'clock on the reverse, crossing RUPEE and the date.
- A short raised ridge on the left rim near 9 o'clock appears to be a small rim die break.
- Denomination one rupee, dated 1986; the mint mark area below the date is obscured by the cracking.
- Metal copper-nickel; measured diameter about 27.4 mm.
- Condition Fine, with the raised cracks clear to the naked eye.
- Mint: Hyderabad Mint
